Enconnex

Aerospace, Defence & Technology · Founded 2013 · Reno, Nevada · Privately held

Enconnex was founded in 2013 in Reno by a team who had been asked to solve a specific IT-infrastructure problem for a hyperscale customer, and who set the firm up around the observation that the American market wanted the whole physical layer of a modern data centre — cabinets, cabling, power distribution, uninterruptible supplies, cooling, and containment — from a single supplier who could custom-engineer the assembly rather than integrate parts from a dozen catalogues. Twelve years on, Enconnex operates a 70,000 square-foot manufacturing and warehouse facility in Reno; carries five international offices and warehouses across Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, India, and China; and ships product into hyperscale, colocation, enterprise-edge, and federal-government data-centre projects on four continents.

The firm’s product catalogue runs across the physical infrastructure of a data centre: server racks and cabinets (both standard and custom-configured), open- and closed-frame containment, uninterruptible power supplies at rack and row scale, power distribution units, high-density cabling and patching, self-contained rack cooling units, and remote monitoring and management. Larger engagements are handled as custom design-build projects rather than off-catalogue orders — a customer specifies the rack density, power envelope, and environmental profile, and Enconnex configures a complete assembly to that specification. Federal-government work is handled through a dedicated verticals practice with the compliance apparatus American federal data-centre procurement requires.

What distinguishes Enconnex among data-centre-infrastructure suppliers is the vertical range on offer from a firm of its size. Larger competitors — Schneider Electric, Vertiv, Legrand — sell across the same category boundaries but from a scale that shapes both their commercial models and their engineering cadence; smaller competitors typically sit inside a single sub-category. Enconnex works the whole physical layer of a data centre from a single Reno operation and can custom-engineer at project scale, which turns out to matter most for the specific class of customer whose hyperscale or federal data-centre programme falls outside the standard catalogue of the majors.
